Satellites are crucial to our society and the world today, and has allowed us to greatly enhance our knowledge and communication. Without satellites, we would not be able to predict the weather, navigate ourselves with GPS navigation, or have a multitude of images of our planet. Satellites are extremely important, but they are also extremely expensive as well. A problem that has existed in the cost is getting the satellite launched. Not only is the launch costly, but the launch is also difficult with smaller satellites.
However, due to advancing aerospace parts we are coming to a solution. CubeCan has stepped up to the plate and designed rockets that are compact and powerful enough to help launch the satellites into orbit. These small rockets will be attached to a Lockheed F-104 Starfighter, which can travel up to a top speed of Mach 2 – which is approximately 1530 miles per hour.
The small rockets will be attached to the F-104 Starfighter’s previous rocket pylons beneath its wings. Once the F-104 Starfighters have reached altitudes of around 60,000 feet, the rocket from CubeCab is expected to initiate.
This would also cut down the costs of launching satellites in the air and hopefully get more satellites up and running. This would mean faster and better communication, wireless internet, and data collection. Dustin Still, CubeCab’s chief operating officer, wishes to launch the CubeSats within the next year. He anticipates that a launch should will take roughly 30 days to be sent to orbit from the time of the order.
