Aviation and Aircraft Bearing List

ASAP Parts Services is a leading provider of bearing products in the civil aviation, aerospace, and defense industries. A bearing is a mechanical device used to assist machinery in linear and rotational movement, friction reduction, and load support. Their use enables the systems to which they are affixed operate faster, more efficiently, and with less friction than a normal sliding surface.

There are five common types of aircraft bearings: sleeve bearings, flange bearings, mounted bearings, thrust bearings, and spherical bearings. Sleeve bearings are extremely common in aircraft. They are used to support linear, oscillating, or rotating shafts via a sliding action. Flange bearings support a shaft that runs perpendicular to the mounting surface of a bearing. The flange, also called the rim, functions as a mechanism to hold a sleeve bearing in place. A flange bearing’s function is to reduce friction between surfaces in rotary and linear movement. Mounted bearings are used to achieve perfect fit on a shaft, and imperfect design can lead to premature failure of the bearing. Thrust bearings are used similarly to a spacer, preventing metal to metal contact in a thrust load application. They are thin, easy to install, and greatly reduce maintenance costs. The final type, spherical bearings, are bearing parts that rotate to compensate for improper installation or misalignment. These are usually used in a rotating shaft that calls for both rotational and angular movement.

ASAP Part Services is a top-tier supplier of bearing components for the aerospace, civil aviation, and defense industries.
