American Airlines, Celebrating 90 Years of Aviation Excellence
On April 15, 2015, American Airlines celebrated its 90th year of service in the commercial aviation industry. Throughout the decades American Airlines has grown to become one of the leading providers of commercial aviation to airline customers.
On April 15, 1926 Charles A. Lindbergh, the chief pilot of Robertson Aircraft Corporation, took flight off to Chicago from St. Louis flying city to city with the US mail as his cargo. Robertson Aircraft Corporation was soon acquired as part of a deal with 80 small airlines.
In 1930 the official formation was created and named American Airways. In 1933 American Airways was transporting mail to over 70 cities in the Northeast, Midwest, and Southwest parts of the United States. Finally in 1934 American Airways was renamed to “American Air Lines”, and was the first to begin transporting passengers nationwide that very same year.
As the years and sky miles accumulated, American Airlines was able to become the world’s largest airline by fleet size and revenue, and second largest by number of destinations. The main hub is located at Dallas/Fort Worth and hubs at Charlotte, Chaicago-O’hare, Los Angeles, Miami, New York-JFK, New York-LaGuardia, Philadelphia, Phoenix, and Washington, D.C.
Chairman and CEO, Doug Parker stated “It has been a terrific 90 years of our airline and our bes days lie ahead”. American Airlines has over 100,000 strong and innovating workers and is “Going for Great”, their current slogan.
For this special occasion, flight 90 going from Chicago O’Hare to London Heathrow celebrated by displaying the original American Airlines logo before departure. Also, during the day, American Airline employees held festivities at their depature gates and hit social media using #HBDAmerican.
